Toyota Sports Performance Center Learn to Play Programs

TSPC offers a complete program of activities for beginner skaters to elite and Olympic athletes. Whatever your level or interest, our goal is to make your skating experience a success.The Skating Department and its professional staff share a love of skating and an unmatched standard of quality. Accompanying a wealth of expertise is a genuine caring for each skater and his or her individual needs.

The Skating School administers all of the ice-skating activities including:

LEARN TO PLAY PROGRAM LEVELS

Hockey Group Classes (6+ to Adults)

Class: Hockey Basics 

Pre-Requisite: This is normally our class for beginners, skaters with no prior experience. Due to Covid Hockey Basics is currently only open to returning Hockey Basics skaters OR skaters who can skate accross the ice unassisted.

Class Curriculum:

  • Two-Foot Glide
  • One-Foot Glide (Right & Left)
  • Forward Swizzle
  • Backward Wiggle
  • Backward Swizzle
    • Agility/ Balance:

      • Two Foot Moving Jump
      • Two Foot Stationary Jump
      • Forward Squats

Required Equipment:

  • Hockey skates

  • Hockey helmet (with a cage/mask)

 

Class: Hockey Basics 2 

Pre-Requisite: Hockey Basics

Class Curriculum:

  • Forward strides using 45 degree V-Push, focus on good recovery and
  • alternating arm drive
  • Forward one-foot push and glide(right/left)
  • Forward C-Cuts: single leg (right/left) and alternating feet (right/left) in a straight line
  • Backward hustle or march,then glide on two feet
  • Backward swizzles/doublec-cuts (4 to 6 in a row)
  • Backward C-Cuts, single leg (right/left) and alternating feet (right/left) in a straight line
  • Two-foot moving Snowplow stop
  • Bonus Skills: Scooting or Skateboard push, on circle (Right & Left)

Class: Learn to Play 

Pre-Requisite: Hockey Basics 2

Class Curriculum:

  • A variety stick & puck Drills

Required Equipment:

  • Hockey skates

  • Hockey helmet (with a cage/mask)

 

Class: Be A Player

Pre-Requisite: Learn to Play

Class Curriculum:

  • Game play basics 
  • Game play drills 

Required Equipment:

  • Hockey skates

  • Hockey helmet (with a cage/mask)

 

Class: Legends Prep (Ages 6-14)

Pre-Requisite: Be A Player

Class Curriculum:

  • Game play strategy
  • Game play drills

Required Equipment:

  • Hockey skates

  • Hockey helmet (with a cage/mask)

  • Hockey stick

  • Hockey gloves

  • Hockey stick

  • Hockey gloves
